The opening of the Sree Narayana College, Sivagiri, marked the fulfillment of a long cherished dream of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam and the Sree Narayana Trusts. Affiliated to the University of Kerala, the College is managed by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam, one of the leading educational agencies in the state.

Sree Narayana Guru, one of the greatest social reformers India has ever seen throught that a downtrodden society could be regenerated only through education. “Liberation through education and strength through organization” was his message. Accordingly, he began spreading the message of education and started a few schools during his life time. Even in those days the idea of College was in his mind. The site of this College was purchased by Swamiji himself, most probably with the idea of starting a College here.

Sree Narayana Guru, one of the greatest revolutionary social reformers Kerala has ever produced, was born on August 20, 1856, in a humble cottage in Chempazhanthy, a village near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, as the son of Madan Asan and Kutty Amma.

The college was founded by Shri. R. Shankar, the third Chief Minister of Kerala, a towering figure in Kerala Politics and a great social reformer. He was an able administrator and an ideal teacher, advocate, social worker and journalist, who used to take decisions impartially without fear or favour.

Sri. Vellappally Natesan, was born in 1937 at Kanichukulangara near Cherthala. He was born as one of the 13 children of the Late Sri. Vellappally Kesavan Muthalali and Smt Devaki Amma, Vellappally Kesavan Muthalali was the land lord in Kanichukulangara with coir related business and to this rich environment Sri. Natesan was born.
